Getting More out of Twitter Starts with Asking for Help

Getting More from Twitter Starts with Asking for Help from Mark Gehrke on Vimeo.

Twitter is a great networking platform to connect with your audience.  Twitter can be valuable to build stronger relationships with your customers and your brand.  Twitter’s benefits really come through continued use and building a relevant network.  When you first start using Twitter is can be very confusing.  I believe this is why many people quit the service before they see the benefits.

In this video Debra Gehrke, of Mandala Life Media, talks with Kim Sippola ( @ATWairport ) about how having help with Twitter from Michelle Mangen ( @mmangen ) made a big difference to her understanding of how to make best use of the platform for her.

A valuable thing you can do when you’re first getting started on Twitter is find a knowledge user that can explain it to you.  If you have someone show you how to make sense of the terms, technology and practices you can get a huge jump start. Tweeting can be an enjoyable and valuable experience for you with a little support.

Our Recommendations:

  • Find a Twitter mentor
  • If you can meet in person
  • Be open-minded and curious to learn
  • Ask lots of questions
  • Do be afraid to try
  • If you don’t understand ask for clarification
  • Jump in and practice, it’s not about perfection
  • Think about how you can add value
  • Participate in the conversation
  • It’s not all about you
  • It’s an evolving medium, keep learning

Want a jump start with Twitter?  We can help.

If you’ve been using Twitter and would like to expand  your Twitter strategy we love to help.  For small businesses using Twitter, getting clear about what you want to accomplish is essential.  Evaluate your strategy up front and remember that strategy to action is a continual cycle.   Your strategy needs continual attention if you want to see results.

  1. Nailed it! When Twitter was first introduced, we didn’t get it either. As it started to take form, it has become a business and sometimes personal outlet that we can’t live without. Once you get in and get a feel for it, the rest is history.

A great point to get a mentor to start using Twitter, it makes a huge difference.

Thanks for the interview and article.

Thanks Patrick, Once you make sense of Twitter it’s a great communication tool. I am regularly amazed at the connections I’m making through twitter.

  2. Mark and Deb:

What a wonderful and beautiful surprise to see this interview with Kim.

What may have even been more fun is seeing Paddy’s comment above since he’s one of my Twitter pals that I met through @KelvinRingold

I so love when I see things like this come full circle. :-)

Okay, back to the video – your points above on getting started are so important. I esp like these two best: “Jump in, it’s not about perfection and Keep Learning it keeps evolving” – those two are IMHO the two most important!

    Cheers!

We love the full circle connections too! Social media can make the BIG world seem a whole lot smaller and more closely connected.

Thanks for the great comments, Patrick, Michelle and Tommy!

So happy to include you in this way, Michelle! You’re a star in the Twitterverse and Mark and I love your willingness to reach out, share, connect…it’s what this whole thing is about; and you rock it.

It’s this very sharing and caring (I know, a bit sappy) that brings me back to Twitter every day. It’s a community of people I care about…and who care about me. And most importantly, I made it that way…for me.

Twitter is exactly what each of us uniquely, individually create it to be.

How FUN is it to know we can create a playground with all our favorite kids!
